Here is the class outline:

1. Module 1: INTRODUCTION TO THE DISCIPLINE OF MANAGEMENT

On this Module you will be introduced to the six focus areas of management. The various contributing factors that shaped the current landscape of management. Learn about the different features that characterize those recognized professions like medicine, accountancy, law, priesthood, etc. which will be used as benchmark to assess if management is a profession. Be oriented on the definition of management and its relation to the concept of organization and leadership.

2. Module 2: MANAGEMENT STUDY FRAMEWORK

On this Module you will learn the two most important frameworks commonly used in the study of management: the ‘systems framework’ and the ‘management process framework’. Then, you will be introduced to the basic functions of management and how these relate to the two frameworks. You will explore the advancement of management thoughts from pre-classical periods up to the present and how these management evolutionary ideas runs parallel to the changing view of man.

3. Module 3: APPROACHES TO THE STUDY OF MANAGEMENT

In this Module you will be learning the different approaches or methods being used to evaluate practices of management and the supporting theories under each method. You will further discover that using any or combination of these methods will result in a higher level of learning that may respond appropriately to emerging concerns of practicing managers.
